  • Footage.NET   Paid Subscription Required
    Footage.net is a network of stock and archival footage distributors. While most of its services are provided for members, users can still look to its frequently updated news section relating to all aspects of motion picture preservation and archiving. A lengthy article by Rich Prelinger on the fundamentals of stock footage libraries can be found on the site's 'About Us' page.
  • iFilm Connections: Asia & Pacific  
    Established in 1995, this site features a continuous online film festival with free streaming of feature-length independent films from Asia and the Pacific Islands. Other resources include profiles and filmographies of filmmakers and overviews of national or regional cinemas.
  • In Media Res   Peer Reviewed
    In Media Res is dedicated to experimenting with collaborative, multi-modal forms of online scholarship. Each weekday, a different scholar curates a 30-second to 3-minute video clip/visual image slideshow accompanied by a 300 to 350-word impressionistic response.
  • Living Room Candidate  
    The site is an exhibition presented by Museum of the Moving Image, featuring more than 250 campaign commercials from every presidential election since 1952.

  • Machinima Archive

  • Matsuda Film Productions: The Japanese Silent Films Site  
    Matsuda Film Productions is an archival rental house for silent Japanese cinema. Provides information on Matsuda's rental services and includes information on the historical context and development of early cinema in Japan.
  • Offscreen  
    This Canadian journal features interviews, festival coverage, and essays on directors, Asian cinema, European cinema, documentaries and other topics. Offscreen and its French language sister journal Hors Champ have been online since 1997.
  • PBS 30-Second Candidate  
    An interactive online exhibit about the history and production of presidential campaign commercials, featuring a historical timeline and clips of interviews with campaign-ad experts. The site also is host to a short video emphasizing the craft of creating commercials (and its similarity to the craft of cinema) and a dissection of how the famous "Eisenhower Answers America" ads were created.
  • Peter Watkins  
    The official site of Peter Watkins, which includes original essays in which the filmmaker writes about his artistic intentions and inspirations. Includes a detailed filmography with director's commentary on each film.
  • Political Advertising Resource Center  
    PARC's website compiles campaign advertising from recent elections and analyzes voter reactions to the ads. Also, their "Campaign 2008" section includes a running archive of ads, including transcripts.

    A refereed, peer-reviewed e-journal that explores the diverging and intersecting aspects of current and past entertainment media (including animation, film, television, games, and the Internet). The journal is published by the Cinema Studies Program, School of Culture and Communication, University of Melbourne.

    This Jacques Tati site contains photos, film clips, and music. In French and English.
  • The Académie of the Forum des images  
    The Académie was conceived as an open University for the public. It hosts masterclasses, cinema lessons, and conferences on films and filmmaking conducted by film professionals and theorists. Videos of these programs are archived on the website.
  • The Criterion Collection  
    Since 1984, the Criterion Collection has been dedicated to gathering important classic and contemporary films from around the world and publishing them in editions that offer the highest technical quality and award-winning, original supplements. The website offers an “online cinematheque” with the possibility to buy or watch films online, film essays, interviews, reviews, top-ten lists, and festivals online.

    This website devoted to the Danish director Carl Theodor Dreyer features a biography, a filmography, a selection of short films and clips, scripts in Danish, and a database for the collection held by the Danish Film Institute (DFI).
  • Third (World) Cinema: Then and Now  
    Website created as the final project for Third World Cinema course at UC San Diego taught by Professor Zeinabu Davis. Provides general introduction to concepts and frameworks of Third Cinema, including Cinema Novo; as well as sections on major films and key texts.
